Nothing is more irritating than an ear-deafening, vibrating furnace. We’re sure that all you wanted was to get a good night’s sleep after a very exhausting day at your work. So, why is your furnace making that unbearable sound?

Read this blog to know the most common causes of a vibrating furnace.

Unsecured Blower Fan or Motor

Your furnace blower pulls in cold air for your system to heat, then blows warm air back into your house. It’s most likely that the cause of vibration is an unsecured blower fan or motor. Sometimes, the blower motor can shake itself loose from the mounts that hold it in place, creating a loud vibrating sound as it runs. Contact a furnace expert to reconnect the fan or motor to the mounts that keep it in place.

An Object is Jammed Inside the Blower

Debris and dirt can find their way into your blower fan cage. Objects like these can make your blower vibrate as they try to push or pull the air inside your heating system. Once you call for a furnace expert, they’ll inspect your blower, clean its cage, and remove any objects that are stuck inside.

Air Handler Has Loose Panels

The casing of your furnace has metal panels that are prone to become loose. When your system is running, the loose panels can make a loud vibrating sound.

Here are two common reasons these panels become loose:

  • The HVAC technician forgot to tighten the panels after repairing or inspecting your furnace.
  • The screws are worn out, causing the panels to lose its grip.

You can tighten any loose screws on the panels with a screwdriver. However, if it’s still vibrating, contact a professional to handle the job.

Disconnected Ducts

Brackets hold the metal ducks into place, securely connecting the ducts and vent openings. If they get disconnected, they’ll create a vibrating sound as air travels through the ductwork. Mostly, ducts get disconnected because they were installed incorrectly. Call in a professional to check on your ductwork and reconnect any detachments.
